Emergency Tips

What to do when you have water damage before Restorations Unlimited arrives: At Restorations Unlimited, safety is of primary importance! In the event of needing our high-quality water damage emergency service, here are some valuable tips until help arrives.

  • Shut off power to all flooded areas to prevent electrocution
  • Shut off the water source of the flood
  • Remove as much water as possible by mopping, sweeping or blotting with large bath towels
  • Wipe furniture down to remove excess moisture
  • Lift drapes off of the floor, loop through coat hanger and hang from curtain rod
  • Remove wet fabrics, area rugs, furnishings and anything else on the flooring in the affected areas
  • Remove damp books from shelves and spread them out to dry
  • Move valuable pictures, paintings and art objects to a dry place
  • Open closet doors, dresser drawers and anything else that can be opened to allow the air to circulate
  • Stay out of rooms where the ceiling is sagging
  • If the electricity is still on, stay out of rooms with standing water
  • Do not use your household vacuum to remove water
  • Do not use any electrical appliances while standing in wet areas
  • Do not lift tacked down carpet until help arrives, as lifting the carpet incorrectly could damage the backing
